Amanda Harris is the Director of the Australian Child & Adolescent Trauma, Loss and Grief Network based at the Australian National University. The Network was established in 2007 in order to address the needs of Australian children facing trauma, loss and adversity and works closely with a number of experts around Australia to develop high quality information and resources for professionals, families and the community.
Amanda is a child and adolescent Psychologist and has worked in many areas with vulnerable children, young people and families. This includes working with homeless youth in a crisis refuge in Sydney; with refugees and asylum seekers in Immigration detention; in Sri Lanka with the thousands of people who lost their homes and whose communities were devastated by the 2004 tsunami; and with children and adolescents with a range of mental health difficulties. Amanda is also currently using data from the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children to research the impact that disasters have on Australian children and what is helping them to recover.
